Simplify Termination Processes With MCAP Metal Clad All Purpose Cable

With almost 70 years of product excellence, Southwire’s impressive breadth of products are built with quality and enduring innovation. Our MCAP® Metal Clad All Purpose Cable continues this tradition of success through its ease of installation, cost savings, and durability. Southwire’s MCAP® is dual listed as MC / AC and may be used in places of public assembly.

Standard 12/2 MC has three copper wires – a hot, a neutral, and a green ground – requiring three terminations. 12/2 MCAP has two copper wires and one aluminum bond wire. The aluminum bond wire is cut flush with the armor, where the armor becomes the equipment ground when used with MCI-A fittings creating a superior ground path versus traditional MC or AC.

The NEC approved armor grounding path is safer and more reliable than traditional manual ground wire make-ups. Southwire’s MCAP® Cable is UL listed to reduce labor costs and increase productivity by simplifying the ground make-up and termination process. Allowing for an improved installation.

Features:

  • An armor assembly that is an equipment grounding conductor per NEC 250.118(10)(b)
  • Installation instructions provided with every reel and coil
  • Simplified armored product application and installation
  • Faster conductor make-up, wiring device installation and trim-out when terminating the grounding/bonding conductor at the armor per installation instructions
  • Cable reverse wound on reel for ease of pulling and installation: when pulling from coils, pull from inside to ensure ease of installation
  • 14AWG-6AWG CopperTHHN insulated conductors

Benefits:

  • Ground make-up process simplified because there are less parts and pieces needed to complete grounding connections
  • Increase productivity up to 30% on installation, and less stressed electrical connections
  • Ground path equal to, if not better than, a copper grounding conductor
